NY Fashion Week: Backstage Beauty at Thakoon Spring 2011

Thakoon's spring 2011 collection was inspired by nature, romance and rock 'n roll, so hair and makeup were created along the same lines, but with a beachy-cool twist.

"the clothes are light so i wanted the makeup to have a little more impact this time-- as if the girls were beautiful, cool fairies," said Thakoon. "i wanted the whole aura to feel like opening windows and letting in a breeze- fresh and romantic but tempered at the same time."

lead makeup artist for NARS, Diane Kendal (pictured above) described the makeup look as being "golden, but not tanned. as if the girls are glowing from within...with, of course, confidence."

to create each model's look, products by NARS were used: skin was prepped with Mattifying Primer and Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (available spring 2011). eyelids were lined with Hollywoodland Shadow Pencil (available spring 2011) and contoured with Calanque Trio Eyeshadow (available spring 2011) using the darker shade in the outer corners. cheeks were given their glow by using Zen Blush with Laguna Bronzing Powder just on the apples highlighted with Etrusque Single Eyeshadow (new for holiday 2010). the look was finished by ling lips with Hopi Velvet Gloss Lip Pencil and applying Pure Matte Lipstick in Madere (both available spring 2011).

the hair at the show was created using all products by Frédéric Fekkai:

to create the look, dry hair was prepped by applying Full Blown Volume Styling Whip, combing it back away from the face with fingers. it was then spritzed with Coiff Oceanique Tousled Wave Spray from the middle to ends of the hair and finished by teasing the back of the hair, keeping it light and creating easy, beachy waves.

Thakoon On Clearance at Target!

Hello Divas!

I hope your three day weekend was fun fun fun! Mine was so so. My hubby and son caught luxe baby's stomach flu. Ugh! Other than that, I did have a ton of fun shopping on Friday. Target was one of my stops and all of their Thakoon items are on sale. If you don't know by now, Thakoon is the Thai American fashion designer who created the famous floral dress Michelle Obama wore the night President Obama accepted the DNC nomination.

He is known for his feminine designs that are timeless, classic, and romantic! Well he created a line for Target and this black and white dress was on my MUST HAVE list!

Isn't it just gorgeous? Well the picture does not do it any justice! First the quality of the cotton is outstanding. Very sturdy. Also the neckline, 3/4 sleeves, and length are reminiscent of the 50s. The floral pattern is innovative and the pleats add a flirty romantic touch. The belted waist allows me to show off my waist and curves, but subtly and in good taste. I will have this dress for years! I can wear it to work (with pumps), on a date (white open-toe pumps), or running errands (ballet flats). And it has POCKETS! LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress! Well this dress originally retailed for $40 and I purchased mine for $27. It was the last one left and in my size! It was meant to be. Plus Target is having a sale on all Thakoon items. The line includes cool shirts, skirts, and varying dresses. You can purchase items here online or at your nearest Target.

Toodles!
