Day 2: Cigarette Pants

I cannot say it enough: the looks of the 50's and '60's are the ultimate for ladylike attire. I always aspire to be more of a lady. Frequently, I admonish my mother for not saving any of her clothes from her younger years. Not that I would be able to wear them, but I love the authenticity of her handsewn a-line shifts in Pucci-like prints.

 

Currently, I am on the search for some cool cigarette pants to wear with soft gamine mohair sweaters so I can pretend that I am Rizzo from Grease. I found a couple of  options:

 

The Love Moschino is a classic black pant with front pockets and faux back pockets. Back pockets are so necessary on a cigarette pant because of the flat straight fit. You do not want to flatten all of your curves. As Moschino describes, " [cigarette pants are ] a heavenly habit you can't extinguish!' I agree. BDG has both twill and corduroy cigarette pants. The  BDG Twill Grazer Cigarette Pant  comes in a mustard color suitable for the last days of fall. It contains both cotton and spandex, providing a little give in the hips, where you may need it most. The BDG Twill Grazer has both front and back pockets and  a medium rise. I cannot say how grateful I am for the medium rise pant.  I cannot go into the 30s with low rise pants. I could barely do it with  20-something hips.

 

BDG Corduroy Ankle Cigarette Pant  comes in a playful maroon color.  Like the BDG Twill Grazer, the Corduroy Ankle Cigarette Pant has both front and back pockets, a medium rise, and a percentage of spandex. What I love about both of these pairs are the amount of wear you can get by pairing the pants with funky heels in early fall, flats in early spring, and boots in winter. Despite its length, the cigarette pant is a very versatile. Originally, $49.00, the BDG cigarette pants are on sale now for  $ 29.00 at Urban Outfitters.

Day 6: Sweater Dresses

Modcoth, Modcloth, Modcloth. I know you have heard me mention the website at least a dozen times by now, and for good reason. The site carries a bunch of on-trend designs and some of my favorite of the more affordable designers like BB Dakota and Ark and Co. Well, if I were looking for a nice outfit to go to a concert or a birthday dinner and lounge I would pick this number (ahem, ahem), and I would pair it with some black over-the-knee boots. I know.. a little risque', but hey, a girl only turns thirty once. The Snug as a Pug Sweater is a cream knit  turtle, neck sweater dress that surely looks as though it would keep you snug. Perhaps, I should ask for my dream body as a birthday gift to go with this dress. With so little time to go, I may just have to settle for some Spanx.  You can find the Snug as a Pug Sweater at Modcloth for $64.99.

Madonna & Daughter Lourdes Launch Junior's Line "Material Girl"

Hello Divas!

I hope you are having a beautiful and fabulous Monday!

The Original Material Girl along with her daughter Lourdes are launching a fashion forward Junior's line rightfully titled "Material Girl" exclusively at Macy's August 3. 

The collection will feature clothing, footwear, handbags and jewelry and will be priced between $12 and $40! First I have to applaud Madonna and Lourdes for making the clothes so affordable.  This price point is perfect for teenagers and does not price families with a tight budget out of the "Material Girl" collection. Nice job.

The line will feature "hard and soft elements, like a tutu dress and studded combat boots, or an oversized boyfriend sweatshirt with a floral print mini skirt.  It’s all about self-expression and playing with layering."

Here are some looks from the line.  What do you think? Would you purchase this for your daughter, niece or cousin?
 

The looks are very reminiscent of the 80s...but I like it.

Proper Undergarments!

Hello Divas!


I hope you beautiful people are having the best day ever!


My good friend Natasha wanted me to write a post about wearing proper undergarments.  Wearing the proper undergarments is all important in making an outfit look okay versus FABULOUS!  For instance, if you are wearing a form fitting dress it is not always proper to wear a G- String.  Why?  Because you can still see the string through the dress! Not cute.  The following are some tips in wearing proper undergarments:

1. Body hugging clothing.  If wearing either of these, the proper undergarments includes seamless underwear or body shapers.  G-Strings with this type of clothing is a NO NO.  They will be visible through your clothes.

2. Thin material or see through clothing.  If wearing a dress or skirt that is see through, please wear a slip.  I know slips are not in, but I always wear a slip if I know my underwear is visible through my dress or skirt.  If you do not want to wear a slip, a body shaper is great also.

3.  Jeans or slacks.  Panty lines are never cute.  Eliminate panty lines with boy shorts underwear or spanx.  G-strings also work well with jeans or slacks.  The string should not be visible through the pants.

4.  Bras.  Bras should fit properly.  They should lift your breast and give you good posture.  Before purchasing a bra, be sure to get a proper fitting.  In addition, when wearing white or thin shirts, wear flesh tone or black bras.  No one wants to see your red lacy bra through your shirt.

5.  Holding it in.  I am of the firm belief that every woman should own a pair of Spanx.  Spanx holds in excess weight while creating a smooth canvas for your clothes to lay properly.  I am back to a size 4 and I still wear Spanx.  I still have a little baby fat on my stomach, so I do not want that jiggling around as I walk.  LOL!

K-la Boutique Stylish Clothes and Funky Accessories

Hello Divas!

My message today:  Always try to maintain a positive attitude even when the Drama gets you down! LOL!

In December, I ventured out to K-la Boutique to check out the new store in Phipps Plaza here in Atlanta.  I had never been there before, but I am glad I went.  This boutique has the CUTEST accessories and clothing at super affordable prices.  Most items are sold between $25 and $75! Believe me you can purchase a funky dress and accessories for under $100!  I love this store.  Check out some of the cool items I discovered.

 

I love gray and black, so naturally I gravitated to these wonderful dresses.  The gray jersey dress on the left is so cool for a nice champagne brunch or lounge.  The silver and gray dress is perfect for a semi-formal event or a cool night on the town.  Both dresses were under $75! Wowza!

However, I was particularly fascinated by the Jewelry case! Yummy!

 

In fact I loved the jewelry so much that I had to purchase an item for myself. Big and beautiful Cocktail Ring! It was only $25! You can't beat that!  Everyone should have a fab Cocktail Ring!
