Superbowl XLV Tomorrow- Rock your Deborah Lippmann nail polishes!

It's Superbowl XLV tomorrow, Sunday, February 6 and it's really not all about the game. Sure, there are two teams playing the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers, in Texas to win the championship, but you can celebrate with your pals and root for your favorite team with food, fun and beauty! Frankly, I'm more excited about watching the new commercials and flaunting my new nail polish colours.. ;)
deborah lippmann nail polish
Whether you're having or going to a party, or even watching the game relaxing at home, you can show your team spirit with flair. The team colors for the Steelers team are black, gold, and white and for the Packers team are green, gold, and white. If you're team-neutral you can wear gold and white since both team share both colors.

Since I am for either team, I'll be rocking gold nailpolish tomorrow, such as Deborah Lippmann's BOOM BOOM POW, ($20) a nail colour packed with glittery gold sparkles. It's a clear polish based with flecks of gold in different sizes and even contains 24K Gold Dust. It also makes a great top coat too.

The quality of the polish is amazing. The formula is consistent so even if you don't put enough on your nails and you go in for another coat, it doesn't look clumpy. This is a few coats of glitter but it doesn't feel thick and gloopy.

I also tried Deborah Lippmann's Fade to Black ($16), a shiny black nail color that is perfect for Steelers fans! Top it off with the gold, and you've got even more gorgeous nails. This is literally one coat of polish and it's this shiny!!

New Year's Eve Nailpolishes- What will you wear?

4 Perfect-for-New-Year's-Eve Glittery Nail Polishes

Try this sparkly trend for the new year. I'm here to share the lacquers I love now

4 Perfect-for-New-Year's-Eve Glittery Nail Polishes

This is a TotalBeauty.com nails article

I recently waxed poetic about the possibility of wearing glittery eyeliner or eyeshadow for the holidays, which I totally did, BTW. And, I'll admit, it looked quite smashing and not nearly as tween-y as expected. But now it's time for glittery nails, here's how I'm getting them …

See polishes

Nails of The Day : GOSH Golden Dragon

Golden Dragon is a deep ocean green with fine yellow shimmer that gives an almost duo-chrome effect. It is incredibly beautiful, and I believe one of the more popular nail polish shades by GOSH. I used three coats here (no topcoat).

Nails of The Day : GOSH Orange Drops

Just a word of warning for those bored with my recent stream of nail polish posts - there's going to be a lot more NOTD over the next couple of weeks as I want to try and post more from my collection whilst it is still reasonably manageable. Today I am wearing Orange Drops by Danish brand GOSH. I love pretty much everything about this nail polish: the colour is a lovely bright orange with golden glass flecked shimmer, the formula is thin, runny, and incredibly easy to apply, and it is fully opaque in three thin coats. Unfortunately Orange Drops looks atrocious against my current skin tone, but the colour is absolutely stunning.

Nails of The Day : Accessorize Illusion Purple Dream

Purple Dream, a glittery purple and blue duo-chrome is one of the nail polishes I picked up from the new Accessorize makeup line. I used three coats here with no top coat (I confess I rarely use topcoats) and it holds up well with no major chips even after a few days of wear. The Accessorize nail polish range is fairly extensive with nearly 50 nail polishes divided into 5 subcategories (Exotic Brights, With Love, Illusion, Je T'aime, and Rock Star). I have never been a huge fan of glitter nail polishes, but the 'Illusion' ones are pretty great for £4, and I will most likely be picking up more.

Nails of The Day : Topshop Lead

The last nail polish I bought from the Topshop Autumn/Winter 2010 Heavy Metal collection is Lead. It is a purple and green duo-chrome which is pretty cool, and although I haven't done a great job in capturing the purple here,it is much more pronounced in indirect light. Lead was the only shade I was initially interested in when I saw previews of the collection, and I think a lot of people will like it, but as to why I personally don't - well, it reminds me of the feathered neck area of feral pigeons (rock doves)... and since I really, really, don't like pigeons, I have serious issues wearing this colour on my nails.

Nails of The Day : Topshop Grunge

The second nail polish I purchased from the Autumn/Winter 2010 'Heavy Duty' collection by Topshop is Grunge: an olive/khaki toned antiqued brass/gold shot through with an almost metallic like shimmer (wonderful colour description right?). The shimmer is almost iridescent and very pretty, but it doesn't really come to life unless it is under bright light or flash photography (see the last picture).

Nails of The Day : Topshop Future

Future, a gorgeous navy blue with fine shimmer, is one of three nail polishes from Topshop's Autumn/Winter 2010 'Heavy Duty' collection. It may not seem like the most original of colour perhaps, but I personally don't have anything similar in my collection and so it is a nice little addition for me. I also bought the other two nail polishes from the collection which I will swatch and post over the weekend followed by a collective review of the three nail polishes.

Essie Nail Color Winter Collection: Fierce!

Hello Divas!

Sometimes I wake up in the morning and I just want to lay in bed all day, but then I think about the Nike commercial and I tell myself, Just Do It!

Day 20 is all about nail color.  I love nail color and these Essie Collections are fierce!

If you are anything like me, a box of Crayola containing 24 crayons was simply not enough. You had to have the box with 96, or 112 or whatever the max number of crayons were for that school year. You probably even justified the purchase as "educational " (one of my choice terms.)  I would ask my Mother, "Why, would you not want me to know all of the colors that exist."  God forbid you should find out about Pantone paint chips, but really why shouldn't you know all the colors? Obviously, I am a somewhat sensual creature who lives in color.  It is one of the greatest gifts of self expression. I can not imagine how I went so long with nude toes.

This season, I am excited about Essie's Fall and Winter nail polishes.  I could not make up my mind on one color because they all excited me. If you are afraid of commitment like me, you can grab a mini four-pack of Essie from Ulta for $17.00 (and don't forget your five dollar off coupon from In Style magazine.) The four-pack contains four luxurious colors that center around what else- shopping!  The Fall Four contains:

Sew Psyched, a sumptuous green that is not too bright and not too dull;
Merino Cool
Little Brown Dress
and  Limited Addiction, a fun red for the Christmas season.
Essie also offers a six-pack that contains two additional colors:
In Stitches and,
Velvet Voyeur
How cute! The names alone make you want to wear them.

I have not yet purchased the Winter Four pack as the Winter colors have just recently become available. The Winter palette contains a similar, yet bolder, palette than the Fall colors:
Greiges
Smokin' Hot
Hot Coco
Luxedo
Masquerade Belle
Going Incognito a green slightly warmer than Sew Psyched;
and  a a coral red, Silken Cord
I am especially excited about the Greiges- the combination of gray and beige, with glints of lavender. The varying shades of greige that have made their way on the runways have made gray such a popular neutral, that it is an acceptable nail color that can find its way in the workplace without reproach.
Until tomorrow,

Chamele

Color Club's Love 'Em, Leave 'Em at NY Fashion Week

though it was a color from their Wild At Heart collection last fall, Color Club's Love' Em, Leave Em showed up at Rolando Santana's ny fashion week's spring runway show. i have to say, this amazing holographic, brown-gold shade was the perfect compliment to the ensembles in the show.

Blogalicious 2010: What I learned

Hello Divas!

Always be thankful for what you have.  I always remind myself to be thankful when I am complaining about something.  Remember it can always be worse and I have a lot to be thankful for.

Last weekend I was in South Beach, in Miami Florida at the Blogalicious 2010 Conference.  I can't believe I was just there only a week ago.  Being in Miami Beach in October is a surreal experience.  It all started with my gorgeous view of the ocean floor at 30K feet.

The conference took place at the Ritz-Carlton South Beach. The hotel is gorgeous, but what the Ritz-Carlton does better than any other hotel is superb customer service. I mean, turn down service with chocolates every night; nightly delivery of gourmet cookies and milk; and the Tanning Butler all complimentary...Certifiable!

Although the weather was a balmy 80 plus degrees with clear clear blue skies, we were there to learn and partake in the conference.  Last year I was a speaker, but this year I was actually volunteering at the conference, so there was learning, work, and some play involved.

Thursday night,  Afrobella and Style Mom hosted a welcome reception entitled Oasis Pink.  There were Chambord cocktails, massages, manis, pedis, and wonderful gift bags.  These ladies know how to put on an event.  I received a fabulous massage and had a fabulous manicure courtesy of Ginger & Liz nail polish.  This is a new nail polish line owned by two African-American sisters.  The colors were GORGEOUS!  Plus the polish dries super fast.  I love it!  Here is a pic of the colors.

I am wearing the color Ivy League, the minty green. Love the name.  The goody bags contained Cover Girl Queen Collection cosmetics, Avon mascara and Anew facial products, and Cover Girl Lash Blast. Nice!

This year the conference was very diverse and there were Latinas, African-Americans, Asian, and Caucasion women in attendance.  This diversity was very educational and enriching.  We all chatted, laughed, and learned so much form one another.  This was the best part of attending this conference!  Good job Mama Law!

The next day was Friday and the start of the conference.  The conference kicked off with a session by Miriam Muley regarding the marketing power of women of color.  The next session was "Latinas in Social Media."  Our Latina sisters are doing it!  There was a power panel consisting of a lawyer, VP of Ogilivy, Award winning journalists, and more. The panel focused on the power of the Latina voice in Social Media and how Latinas can use their voice to champion causes in their community. Fierce!

After a little break, I was tasked with introducing Ana White of Ana-White.com for the "Following Your Passion:  Key to National Success" session.  Ana is an AMAZING woman.  She is from Alaska and has become an overnight sensation by making her own furniture from scratch! She has no formal training as a carpenter.  She just has an amazing eye for style, design, and can-do attitude.  Within 8 months of starting her blog, she has a TV deal in the works, a book deal and she works for HGTV.com.  Plus she is so humble and beautiful.  I took a pic with her, but have no idea where it is.  She came from humble beginnings and although she is a sensational success, she is the sweetest person ever. Love her!  Her advice:  Be you. Be Authentic. Do what you love and the success will come! Ditto.

I also got an opportunity to visit the Ebony Suite.  Ebony Magazine is celebrating 65 years of fabulousness and released a 65th Anniversay issue.  It features icons and current up and coming icons.  I love Ebony and Jet magazines and I hope they last forever.  Here are some pics!

Saturday was another work day for me.  However I did get the fabulous opportunity to meet June Ambrose, the Stylists of all Stylists!  She is gorgeous and sweet as pie! Here is a pic of me and June. She liked my custom shirt courtesy of Alicia Garcia of Pekuliar Treasures.  I was beaming!

So after my duties were done, I hit the beach. Lovely.  However, the Blogalicous crew had a wonderful party sponsored by Invisalign, Johnson's Baby Oil, Bali Shapewear, Barbie So In Style and Middle Sister Wines.  DJ Geek Sexy, AKA, the Keyinfluencer, was the DJ and the party was rocking.  Make-up Arist Extraordinaire, Tia Dantzler, was giving make-overs, Johnson's was giving professional photos, and So In Style Barbies were for the taking.  Of course, I had to make sure Luxe Baby received a doll.  I am saving them for her when she gets older!

However, the highlight of my night took place at the Sweet Suite sponsored by the Clever Girls Collective. There was champagne and cupcakes. The. Cupcakes. Were. Insane. Yummy!  But the best part of this party was that there was a Wii Just Dance 2 competition.  I had to try it and after a couple of dance offs, I finally won dancing to Beyonce's Crazy in Love! I love that song.  My friend, Funkidivagirl, won twice dancing to Outkast's Hey Yah! I didn't know she could dance.  She can get down!

The last day of the conference was Sunday and I was all revved up to see Soledad O'Brien who skyped in to be interviewed by the ladies of Mama Law Media Group.  I am a Soledad stan as I have been watching her since she was on the local NBC Today show in NYC.  But I didn't make it? Why?  Apparently, I have this urge to scratch my eyeballs out in my sleep.  I woke up to an unbelievable pain and irritation in my left eye and I immediately knew I had somehow scratched my cornea.  This was my second episode of scratching or tearing my cornea in my sleep and I told my roommate, Renee Ross of Cutiebootycakes, I had to go to an urgent care clinic immediately.  Being a good friend, she found me a CVS 1 minute, urgent care clinic, a mere 1 minute walk away.  We were in and out in about 30 minutes.  Yes, the nurse confirmed I tore my cornea in two places and $85 later, I was on my way to normalcy.  Of course, it was hard to see, but at least my eye was not hurting anymore.  I now wear sleep masks ever night.

Sadly, I missed the first session because of my eye drama.  Marc Morial, National President of the Urban League spoke and it was sponsored by Feeding Dreams.  Feeding Dreams is a wonderful non-profit that celebrates Arican-Americans that are making a difference in their community.  General Mills is a supporter of Feeding Dreams and surprisingly General Mills and Feeding Dreams gave all Blogalicious attendees a new Fossil Stella Watch. Luckily, I was able to snag one and it is gorgeous. Chunky and full of Bling! Hello!

But I did make it to a couple of fabulous sessions.  The best session I attended hands down was the "Using Social Media to Promote Causes" session b Dr. Otis Brawlery, M.D.   He is an oncologist and Chief Medical Officer for the American Cancer Society.  He was dropping so much knowledge it was fascinating.  He schooled us on the disparities of death rates between whites, blacks, and latinos regarding all types of Cancer.  And you know what it comes down to:  health care.  Those who have access have a better chance of survival than those who do not.  Also so many women in the session shared their Cancer stories regarding their loved ones and they were very touching.   Plus Dr. Brawley was hysterical.  He dropped the knowledge but kept us laughing.  He was the best!

I briefly listened in on Wayne Sutton's session on "Geo-Location Apps/Location Based Services (LBS) and then I had to get myself to the airport.  My plane was leaving at 4:15 and I had to get to the airport by 3:30pm.  I could not reserve a shuttle, but the beautiful ladies of Blogalicious helped me find a ride via Twitter to the airport.  I shared a car with Ms. Lori, Thien Kim, and Towanda to the airport. Like I said, private car service on a budget. Lovely!

Blogalicious 2010 was great!  It was in a gorgeous hotel, gorgeous location, and in the company of gorgeous women.  Although we all looked beautiful on the outside, the true beauty of the Blogalicious attendees was on the inside.  We all have a story and we all have something in common and that is why Blogalicious is a phenomenal conference.  Thanks Mama Law!

Nails of The Day : Bourjois Beige Glamour

Beige Glamour is the only shade of Bourjois nail polish I currently own, and it's a great muted dusty pink shade for more conservative environments. The So Laque formula is really very good, and combined with decent durability and a general fuss free application, I don't know why I haven't bought more. Mental note: must rectify.

Comparing Chanel Paradoxal and Barry M Dusky Mauve

Barry M's recent nail polish releases haven't really interested me in any way, but as soon as I saw Dusky Mauve, I knew I had to pick up for its resemblance to Chanel Paradoxal nail polish. A few blogs have pointed out this dupe already, but since I haven't managed to find any comparative swatches yet, I thought I would do some myself to show you guys just how close they are to one another. In the pictures above, I am wearing Chanel's Paradoxal on my index and middle finger, and Barry M's Dusky Mauve on my ring and little finger. I realise the photos are minuscule, but so far they look absolutely identical to one another right?

There is a hidden shimmer in both Paradoxal and Dusky Mauve that can only be captured in really bright light or flash photography. I hope the above comparison depicts just how similar they are to one another. I really don't think there are any differences between the two to be honest - at least none that my eyes can detect. I used two coats of polish for Paradoxal, and three for Dusky Mauve because I experienced a little cuticle drag on my ring finger.

All in all definitely worth checking out for those still holding out Paradoxal. I also posted about a great dupe to Chanel's Particuliere nail polish a while ago if you missed it (here)!
