Where do the 'God-Fearing" ladies fit in?

First, let me say that EVERYONE is welcome to this blog. I am not that type of Christian that hates anyone. It's your life you live it the way you want to and no matter what I will still love you in theway that Christ modeled love over and over again. I am NOT perfect and I have no room to judge and no right to condemn. Today I just want to do something for a particular group of commenters on the blog.

Sometimes on these natural hair blogs, vlogs, and forums I feel kind of outcast. I'm not bothered by it because I understand that by choosing not to conform to the things of this world that I am not always up-to-date on the "cool" stuff. But the purpose of this post is not to preach, it's to refer- you know the good stuff, more websites to stalk :)

So many of you leave words of appreciation on the Sunday Post that I wanted to point you in the direction of some other sites/blogs that you may be interested in.

Sunday Style: Asymmetrical Twist-out

Why didn't anyone tell me about this look...I'm all late. I saw that the video for "Shame" was posted back in April. I'm out of the loop with it comes to music videos. Ya'll have to keep me on my toes when there is a cute hairstyle out there hiding in a video.

My version of this look was not as full because did not include any added hair. I created as much fullness as I could by fluffing.

For the short side of the style I encouraged shrinkage by wetting the hair with a spray bottle filled with only water. The longer side of the hair was twisted after the hair was allowed to air dry for about 30 minutes.

If you hate shrinkage this is a perfect example of how it can be your friend - it can be used to simulate a cut. I'm going to look into more ways to use shrinkage to my advantage when it comes to styles.

For a tutorial of this style check out my YouTube Channel: Asymmetrical Twist-out

Sunday's Message
Victory Through Christ
1 Corinthians 15:57
We are in a war, but if you are a child of God you will be victorious through Christ. We should live victoriously because we are more than conquerors. Many times it may appear that we have been defeated but that is only temporary.
To live a Victorious Life
1. Encourage the presence of God. James 4:8
2. Embrace the promises of God. Hebrews 13:5
3. Entreat the power of God.
Live in a power beyond yourself

VIDEO: Hair Myths and Mockeries

The first thing I did was send this to my curly haired white friend.

Satin Braidout

After the failed curl attempted on Sunday I decided to give the satin braidout a trial. I didn't have two satin scarves to use so I attempted to improvise and used the belts from two of my satin robes. But that didn't work.

So then I decided to just do a braid-out with 3 plaits/braids. One in the back and two in the front - one on each side. That worked a little better.

Braid-out
To achieve this look (on flat-ironed hair)
  • Separate hair into three sections - 1 in the back an one on each side in the front
  • Apply product of chioice - I used SheaMoisture Curl Enhacing Smoothie
  • Braid quickly after applying product because the hair will start to poof is left loose for too long
  • Let the hair dry or sleep with hair braided overnight
  • Release the braids and fluff until all the hair is blended well and the parts are not visible

Since I have been struggling with keep my hair out and down - this 'do ended up in a bun by Noon.

"Isn't it beautiful? Alright."

Warning: There is some foul language during the first few minutes of the film.

Flat Twistout w/ 2 Braids

You get it first...

This is a style I wore to the CurlyNikki gathering a while back. I got a few questions on how I maintained the look and this is how.

The flat twists were done on dry hair that was an old twist-out. The older the twist-out the more stretched out the look.

This look was originally done on freshly washed hair but as the days passed the look got a little messy and this video basically demonstrates the steps I took to refresh the style.

To achieve/refresh this style:
1. Create two plaits/braids in the front
2. Separate the rest of the hair into easy to work with sections
3. Using a water-based product, flat twist from the crown to the nape (this will encourage length with the look)
4. When hair is 100% dry remove the twist (apply oil if desired) and fluff until you are happy with the look

Edit: The error with the video not playing should be resolved. If it does not play for you please let me know

A night out with an old twist out

When you have old hair, a busy day, and plans later that night - trying to figure out something to do your hair can be stressful.

It just so happens that two days before I watched a YT video on a Quick and Easy Saturday Night Updo...and I must say, it was very quick and very easy.

The style was done on a 3 day old twist out that was on it's last leg - seriously it was BAD.

I did not apply any product to my hair prior to styling and the only tools used were my hands, a brush, and a hairzing.

For smoother edges you can gel & brush - then tie them down. I opted to go with just a brush because I didn't want the style to look like an attempt at neatness - I prefer messy looks when my hair is out.

I got a few compliments that night so this will definitely be a "go to" look for those days/nights when I have little to no time to do my hair for an event.

Tip: Nail Polish Drying

I thought this was really worth sharing. I love painting my nails and I get extremely irritated when I mess them up because of time constraints that don't allow me to let them dry 100%.

Great Twistout Tutorial

Recently I watched this video by Naptural85Ultra Defined Twist Out Tutorial No Heat Curls. The technique she used was so simple and I love the way she always delicately handles her hair.

The definition from her twists was amazing and lasted for more than one day. I can't wait to give this a try.

I hope someone finds this helpful and be sure to check out her other vids (I love her channel).

[Highly Requested] Updo Style

Styling Steps:
• Hair has been freshly washed, conditioned, and a leave-in conditioner was applied.
• Separate the hair into the two major sections that will be cornrowed
• Cornrow the back section from ear to ear. The thickness of the cornrows is up to you.
• (optional) Two strand twist the loose hair after the cornrow is complete
• The final cornrow that will go from ear to ear will start at the front of the hair line and end just above the ear.
• The cornrows in the front will go from front to back. Thickness is up to you.
• Once all the hair is braided and twisted just pin the twists in place for a lasting protective style

This look has options. You can pin the twists up for a protective style or take them down and let them hang for a more fun style.

Tips:
* Keep a spray bottle close so that if hair starts to dry while styling you can quickly re-wet that section
*Using a leave-in/or hair cream in each section will give the hair slip and help the hair slide easily as you braid.

Bun Tutorial

Some geographic areas are cooling down faster than others so there are some of us that are already implementing our Fall/Winter hair regimens. I have not started my Fall/Winter hair regimen yet - it was 80° today :) however the humidity and the dew points are dropping so I will be starting soon.

Many Fall/Winter hair regimens consist of protective styles and last year my favorite protective style became the bun. This is how I do my buns:

To change it up (and prevent breakage) I like to move the position of the bun or include some cornrows in the front.

Happy bunning!
