Natalie Portman's 'Black Swan' Premiere Looks

Natalie Portman's new movie "Black Swan" is getting a lot of buzz, and while it is likely i won't see the movie for months (getting to the theater is so hard these days), i'm loving the looks she rocked for two of the premieres-- one in Toronto, the other in NYC.

at the Toronto Independent Film Festival red carpet premiere, Natalie paired a smoky eye with a pretty pink lip. her hair was styled by Nexxus creative director Kevin Mancuso, who chose to create soft, feminine waves, a fabulous complement her black and white Jason Wu dress.

Kevin says,"...to bring out the natural, organic beauty of Natalie’s hair...i went for touchable texture and a feminine silhouette."

get the look at home by prepping with a volumizing shampoo and conditioner, followed by a curl enhancing mousse on damp hair (Nexxus Gorgeous Curls was used in this case). to style, dry hair with a diffuser, smoothing ends with a round brush, and transfer warm hair to large Velcro rollers. after the rollers have cooled, remove and tousle hair with fingers. curl hair around the face using a medium barrel curling iron and tousle again with fingers to release the curls and create more of a 'wave' effect.

to finish the hair, apply a dime-size amount of a taming lotion like, Nexxus Sleek Finish, to fingers and gently run over hair to help define and control waves then lightly mist hairspray for hold with movement.

at the new york premiere, Natalie's hair was again styled in full waves, but this time looked like a classic Hollywood starlet, complete with a perfect deep red lip, lush lashes and black Dior off the shoulder dress.

her hair look was created by stylist John D. he says of the look:"it was beautiful, and helped balance the total look, especially since the bottom of the dress was so full. he says, "i started with argan oil-infused Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream then blow dried the hair smooth using a round brush to give it 'oomph' at the root.

since Natalie has naturally curly hair, it needs extra moisture to look its best. so, John used Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream for its soft hold benefits, but also because it helps protect hair, moisturizes, smooths the cuticle and is perfect for getting rid of any frizz and static.

John says, "i then used a 1" curling iron, and starting at the back of her head, i curled round sections all over her head to set the volume in. i finished her hair with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray to give it extra hold that looked soft. it was raining in new york tonight and i wanted to make absolutely sure the body stayed. after her hair cooled, i used one of my tricks: i sprayed a paddle brush with hairspray and used it to separate and loosen the hair. this also tames the curls at the same time. i completed the look with a touch (more) of hairspray to give it extra hold. i find that i can brush through the hair several times and it gives no residue. it looks naturally shiny and still moves. i gave used a light mist of Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray to finish.”

Natalie looked great at both events! which look do you prefer?

Keri Russell at the Primetime Emmy Awards

pretty in pink, Keri Russell (i miss Felicity, don't you?) attended the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmys looking fresh and laid-back, but still very elegant.

Lucy Hale at the 2010 Teen Choice Awards

did you tune it to the 2010 Teen Choice Awards on monday night? if so, i'm sure you enjoyed seeing all of the gorgeous hair and makeup looks! one of my favorite looks was on Lucy Hale. she's gorgeous naturally, but i really love how her makeup look amped up the drama factor, perfectly suited for her just-edgy-enough dress and fierce shoes (love!).

mark celebrity makeup artist Mai Quynh explains how she created the Pretty Little Liars star's Teen Choice Awards makeup look:

on her eyes:

"to begin, i used the Concealer Brush to apply the bronze shade from the Keep It Going Longwear Eyeliner & Shadow in Surreal to her lashline and blended upwards to the crease. next, i applied a top coat of I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Gioia into the crease and smudged up to her brow bone, then lined both her upper and bottom lashline with I-Mark Custom Pick Eye Shadow in Java using the Flat Eyeliner Brush. to add an extra hint of drama, i lined her inner lids with Eyemarker Color On Line in Jet and finished with two coats of Make It Big Lash Plumping Mascara in Raven."

on her face:

"i prepped Lucy's face by applying Face Xpert Flawless Touch Makeup in Golden with the Foundation Brush to even out her skin tone. next, i dabbed Good Riddance Hook Up Concealer in Light/Medium under her eyes, blending it in with the Concealer Brush."

"for her cheeks, i used the mark Foundation Brush to apply Just Pinched Instant Blush in Peachy to the apples of her cheeks. i then dusted a light coating of Matte-nificent Oil-Absorbing Powder to eliminate any excess shine in her t-zone. using a combination of Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder in Pro Golden and Glowdacious Illuminating Powder in Shimmied Up with the Powder Brush, i accentuated the contours of her face and added a gorgeous radiance."

on her lips:

"i used Juice Jems Lip Gloss in Juicy Fig to give Lucy's lips the perfect amount of color and shine, without looking overdone."

Get Her Look: Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens attended the beach-side kick-off for Neutrogena's Wave for Change campaign recently in malibu. her look was polished and fresh thanks to makeup artist Karan Mitchell.

Vanessa wanted her makeup to be "golden and whimsical", perfect for the sunny california day, so Karan made sure to "use products that were not only beautiful but were packed with SPF protection."

Karan shares how she created Vanessa's look:

on her face:

"even bare, Vanessa's skin looked soft and bright. she's been using the new Neutrogena Wave Sonic Power Cleanser and her skin felt incredibly smooth as i applied her makeup."

"i prepped her skin first with Healthy Defense Liquid Moisturizer SPF 50. this liquid moisturizer "sinks right into the skin so it wears beautifully under makeup." the foundation Karan chose to use was Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20 in Tan. for her eyes, Karan perked up Vanessa's eyes with the Healthy Skin Brightening Eye Perfector in Medium.

"on her cheeks i used the bronze shade of the Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer in Natural Glow which i also used under the cheekbones for contour."

on her eyes:

"i started with the peach base color from the Nourishing Eye Quad in Butter Creme and applied it all over her eyelid, up to the brow. it has an spf of 15, so it protects delicate eyelids from the damaging effects of the sun."

"next, i used the copper shade on her lids from the Nourishing Eye Quad in Copper Glow. i also applied the golden shade to the middle and the inside corners of her lids with a dampened brush."

following the shadows, Karan applied liner only to the top of her eyelids using Nourishing Eyeliner in Cosmic Black . some individual lashes were added for intensity, followed by two coats of Healthy Lengths Mascara in Carbon Black.

on her lips:

"for a peachy pout i used MoistureShine Lipstick, with spf 20, in Peach a Boo, and layered the MoistureShine Gloss in Healthy Peach over top of it for a glassy finish."
