Everyday Minerals- Colllections Spring/Summer

In the past couple of months, Everyday Minerals have come out with several collections (ie: value sets, assortment of their products in a gift set). There are several that I have come close to getting, but I turn around to see so many products sitting on my vanity that I still need to use and I don't check out. :(

Even though EDM is very different than where it was a year ago, there is still something about it that makes me want to check out what new products they have! They all contain at least 10 items for about $34 (except for the Utopia Blooms which is $29) so everything is a great deal.

The Josh Flagg Million Dollar Makeup Kit (PROS: new eye shadow colours- all in FULL SIZE CONS: Don't like the All-smiles blush and not sure about all the shadow colors)

Utopia Blooms- 25 Eyeshadow Kit (PROS: 25 different samples of eye shadows CONS: I have about half of them already)

On The Reef, Coral Collection- (PROS: I don't have any of the colours and they contain great neutral shades CONS: none :) )

Naked Natural Collection- (PROS: Contains their new blush/bronze combo CONS: Have some of the colors already)

Everyday Minerals- Spring 2010 Zoo Collection and Dupe Eyeshadow

everyday minerals spring 2010
The new Everyday Minerals Spring collection is here.. check it out!

This is their "Going to the Zoo" inspiration.. as you can tell the names are fitting with the "Zoo" theme! What do you think of their new colors?

I do like the combination of three main eyeshadows- definitely would wear these together. However, I noticed their "Sea Horse" color looked very familiar- it's a COMPLETE DUPE of another shade, called Movie Night. So I checked out the ingredients, and lo and behold, they're the same! The only difference is that Sea Horse contains the newly added ingredient Lauroyl Lysine.

See for yourself..

Sea Horse.
Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxide (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Lauroyl Lysine.

Movie Night-Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxide (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499).

All images are from Everyday Mineral's website for display and educational purposes.

So, the reason why that I am letting you know is because I noticed that a few other shades were also similar and had very similar ingredients. I noticed I tend to buy similar colors all the time, so I want everyone else to know to look at their ingredients! Pictures can be deceiving sometimes. Other dupes I found...

Include, JUNIPER and IN THE GARDEN. Also, First Love (a relatively new eyeshadow) is the same or very similar to SILVER MEDAL (a holiday shadow). There may be more but I haven't found them yet...

Check out the Holiday 2009 Colors here.

Everyday Minerals New Year Specials

It's a new year... and that means new specials! EDM- famous for having ongoing specials has two new ones to celebrate 2010. They have new color collections that are not available for sale yet, but you can own a sneak preview NOW as a gift with purchase.

Wondered where the EDM forum went?

Please note: EDM's eye shadows have been reformulated and have caused controversy due to an additional ingredient they now have- Lauroyl Lysine. According to the site, it is "An amino acid derived from natural coconut fatty acid, used for it’s silk like texture, spreadability and adhesion qualities." What do you think of this?

Here are the two specials:

Everyday Minerals' forum update and Try Me Free kits

The Everyday Minerals' forum is gone.. It has actually been a few days since they closed it. I'm a bit sad that they did this because it was such a great opportunity for customers/fans of EDM to interact and engage with each other. Also, it was a great resource to see hauls, swatch pictures, etc. They have replaced it with their updated blog which is nice and will take some time to get used to. For now, R.I.P. EDM forum. There are other forums out there where people still go to, but I forgot what they are.

Drama?- The week before the forum went "offline," I remember the admins were adamant about not bashing other members, ie: keeping the forum a place where things were civil and happy. I completely agree- who would want to go to a forum where people were mean to you and bullied you? The root cause may have been stemming from these so-called "group orders." From what I read, it seemed like someone participating in a group order- where one person ordered items for a number of people who wanted to participate in order to get the 45% discount and only wanted just one item- did not pay the person back in time. Not sure if this was true or what exactly happened because I wasn't checking the forum 24/7 and they had deleted those posts. However, it is sad that people just did not communicate enough so if there were any problems in payment, it could have been resolved in a more timely, fashionable manner. Instead, it had to blow up and was probably the last straw for EDM.

In the meantime, I've been on Meg's Makeup plenty to get my daily beauty fix! EDM members are also on here too! :) Read the forum on Meg's makeup to hear what happened to EDM.

Check out my first makeup goodies from Meg's Makeup here and my second package here.

I'm still a fan of Everyday Minerals- adore their products and they recently updated their Try me Free kits for eyes. Even though it says $5, you can add any one of these kits for FREE (hence, they are called "Try Me Free Gifts.") All you have to pay is shipping!

They also have beautiful Christmas and New Year Palettes in their Collection.

The Winter Wonderland collection offers sample sizes of:
- Floating Feathers: a white, light color great for a highlighter and inner corners of your eyes
- Swing Set: a matte, grey-ish blue color for an all-over lid (I own this!)
- Bubble Tea: A shimmery blue color

The Trim the Tree collection offers samples of:
- Parasail: light pink shade, good for highlighter
- Freckles: an olive green color
- Shopping Spree: a very pretty purple! (I own this too!)

Since I already own one of the colors in each set, I won't be getting these. I can't wait for their new kits though!

Everyday Minerals Holiday and Winter Collection 2009

Source: www.everydayminerals.com
Everyday Minerals, also known as EDM to many, are currently selling their Holiday colors from last year! Called "Reissue Parties," EDM has been selling popular colors from previous collections that are no longer available on their website, on a temporary basis. They have had about 2 reissues so far which lasted about 4 days but this time, they have no specified when these Holiday colors will stop selling. According to the forum, they will probably stop selling these when they sell out.

Also, today is the debut of their Winter Collection ! I was so excited to see what they would offer but I am not that impressed. It includes 1 blush color called Wild Vines, is supposed to be a bright pinkish color similar to their popular shade, Apple. It also includes 4 eyeshadows, All Spice, Cardamom, Juniper and Nutmeg. They're very neutral, taupe-ish shade- like light brown, greys, and they look a bit blah if you have light, pale skin. You definitely need to use the Juniper which looks like their darkest color to provide some contrast. Otherwise, I have to say this collection would not look good on those with fair complexions and would just wash you out.

Are you a fan of EDM? What are your favorites?

Everyday Minerals- New website

I thought I would let my readers know that Everyday Minerals now has a new and improved (some may disagree) website! Some of the big changes in case you haven't seen it yet:
1) Community based- They are becoming more social networking friendly by having groups, photo capability and blogging for individual users. You can also "add friends" and send private messages to them. This is a bonus for people who want to contact other forum members without letting everyone know what they have to say!

2) Changes in Custom Kits- The free custom kit, the personal custom kit and the Super Custom kit are now gone.

To learn more about the kits and the controversy about the website...

The Free Custom Kits are now replaced by "Try Me Free" kits which are pre-selected kits in various shades based on light, medium, tan colors or a trio of blushes, concealers or eyeshadows. They are a bit limited but if you are new and do not own a lot of various blushes, these are a great way to try the favorites!

The Personal Custom kits (6 items for $34) is replaced with a 25% off discount of 5-11 items of full-sized products. So, this way you have more leeway in the number of items you want while getting a discount.

The Super Custom Kit (12 items for $50) is now available through a 45% off discount of 12 items or more! This is by far their best current deal because if you order more cheaper items, the price will be less. For example, a lip product costing $4 will only be $2.20 if you have 11 other full size items. Previously in the old Super Custom Kit, it would have cost an average of $4.17 ($50/12= $4.17).

Controversy-
Many customers on the forum are upset with EDM because these kits are gone, when they had said earlier in the forum that the Super Custom kit was going to stay with the new site. Frankly, I think that is unfair for them to ask a company that is obviously here to make money to lower their prices. With a new site, there are costs involved that simply do not pay for itself.

Yes, compared to the original Super Custom Kit, if you order 12 full size items for $12 each, you would have only payed $50 compared to the $79 you would pay now, even with the 45% off discount. But realistically, does a customer order always $12 items? One usually orders blushes which are $8, or eyeshadows which are $6, or even brushes which vary from $5-10. So, point is: strategically add items to your cart to maximize your value.

End of Summer Beauty Thoughts

I've been hearing this term "end of summer" lately and it is quite frightening to hear that. That means the past two months- June and July- have gone by so quickly that I did not even realize it. I mean, where did all this time go? Also, this means that my summer "tan," which is more like a shade of normal human color will fade as quickly as I received it. Does this mean I should pack away my Everyday Minerals Summer Bronzer pressed powder? It seems like I just started wearing it too...

I blogged quite a bit this summer already about Everyday Minerals, including their Free Sample Kit, my Super Custom Kit order and all the new products that came out. Here is a full listing here:
* Free Sample Kit Review
* My Super Custom Kit haul
* Swan Special (which is currently valid!)
* New Products in June
* Eye Shadow Compacts
* More Reasons I Adore EDM

Wow, I blogged about them quite a bit.. there is something about them that makes their products addictive. Their site and fabulous forum makes you feel connected to the company and their great products do not hurt either. You can read my "More Reasons I Adore EDM" to find out more.

I should really do a review on my haul, in the above picture. As you can see I have quite a few brushes and I am using each one except the two which are duplicates. (They are my backups in case I lose them.) I have the following:

- flat top brush- used to apply the base foundation
- long handled kabuki brush- also used to apply base foundation or overall face color
- stippling brush (which is no longer available)- to apply brush and blend face color
- eye kabuki brush- for my under-eye concealer

So goodbye bright, light summer-y shades, and hello to darker browns, forest greens, and deep violets ! Their eyeliner kit is perfect.. ;)

Things to look forward to in the fall:
- Fall neutral eye colors
- Continue experimenting with my EDM colors (it's been so hot that I hardly get a chance to wear all my EDM goodies) and new EDM products
- Using retractable brushes for on-the-go!
- Cooler weather, so I can wear my long cardigans and sweaters

Everyday Minerals New Eye Color Compacts

Here are the other Everyday Minerals Eye Palettes, in addition to the gorgeous Everyday Resorts eye palette featured in my Everyday Minerals Haul post. Again, I do not own these yet, but I have been reading mixed reviews on the EDM forum. Some say the mini brush, which is very adorable, is too thick to actually get any product within the little hole of eyeshadows, and some say that there is too little eyeshadow minerals in each. The compact itself is very cute and convenient for travel, since it is too hard to carry loose minerals when you're out. It's also refillable, even though the plastic caps are a bit tough to take out. You can either get these eyeshadows in this each compact set for $10 or buy samples of each color for $2.50 a shade.

The Sand Castle Collection

The Lavender Collection

Everyday Minerals Haul

If you didn't catch my previous post on Reasons I Adore Everyday Minerals (EDM), check it out here. They have a great forum where EDM lovers go to ask questions and learn and share their common interest- EDM. I recently made a few sample kit orders to find my right foundation shade. I thought I had found my perfect shade until I read a post from someone who suggested a shade that I had completely overlooked! Although I found this out after my purchase of a Super Custom Kit (12 full-size items), I am looking forward to trying another sample kit to try that new shade.

Since I am always scouting other people's blogs for PICTURES, I am returning the favor here with a picture of my haul:

This haul includes:
6 brushes (2 flat-top, two long handled kabuki, a foptic, and an eye kabuki),
two pressed palettes in Fairly Light and Summer Bronzer,
a blush in Apple, a base,
a concealer in Multi-Tasking and
a bronzer in a Kaolin clay formula.

There was also a special going, the Guessing Game special, and I got a purple cellulose sponge and three mini blushes (the bottom 3 on the left). In addition, I added a sample kit along with my order (the bottom 5 sample jars on the right).

To celebrate my friend's wedding this weekend (Congratulations w!), here is an Everyday Minerals compact with 4 summer-y shades which would be gorgeous for any bride. There are new eye color compacts out in more colors, read here.

Source: Everydayminerals.com since I do not own this compact yet. I am saving up to include this in my next haul!

Reasons I Adore Everyday Minerals

Here are just a few reasons why I adore Everyday Minerals.

First, they offer a free sample kit to new customers. See mine here It gives you the chance to try their products and find your "color" before committing to any of their full-size products.

Second, they have on-going specials, whether it be a discount or freebies with your purchase. Recently, they offered a 5% discount for Mother's Day, a free lip balm with your purchase of $15 and a Guessing Game. This means that the more you order, the more prizes you will get. Based on the forums, it seems like the minimal order (less than $10) will get you a cellulose sponge, worth $2. Larger orders, like their personal custom kit- worth $34- will get you the sponge and a few other eye shadow samples. Update: Current special is a $5 Foptic brush (original price: $10)

This takes me to the third reason- they offer CUSTOM KITS!! You can put in any 6 full-size items for $34 or 12 full-size items for $50. A full-size item can cost between $6-12 and with a 12-item kit, it comes out to a little more than $4 each. What a bargain! You can also put in brushes which are about $10 a pop..

And the last reason why I am raving about them is their BRUSHES!! They have the most softest bristled brushes ever, including their famous FLAT TOP BRUSHES!

So how do you keep track of all their amazing color choices? Use this swatch list, excludes their numerous eye colors:
(From left to right: Cheeks, Base, Concealer/Face)

Everyday Minerals Sample Kit Review

I've recently discovered for myself a brand of minerals makeup that I absolutely adore- Everyday Minerals! They have great products, using ingredients that are free of chemicals, and also very affordable! Many other beauty bloggers/gurus out there also agree. I have learned about this company several years ago actually but I was happy with my makeup routine, using Bare Escentuals i.d. bareMinerals. Not to say that I don't like their products anymore, I just have expanded my collection and it never hurts to try new things. (unless you're severely allergic, which I am to SPF-related products- but that would be an entirely different post)

So after watching many YouTuber's hauls on EverydayMinerals, I decided to get their FREE starter kit, which consists of 3 different base colors for your face, 1 blush color and 1 concealer product. They are all in tiny little jars but they are PACKED with minerals, so they are very generous sample sizes. :)

I took some pointers from their descriptions and ordered the base colors from the Olive family- Olive Fair, Light Olive and Olive Golden Medium. I knew right away out of those three that Light Olive was the right one for me.. I am still going to try other colors maybe Beige Light Medium to see if they are a better match but I'm pretty satisfied with the color match and coverage.

They offer their bases in 4 formula choices- Intensive, Matte, Semi-matte and Original Glo, in the order of most coverage to least coverage. I opted for Matte since I read other users actually broke out from Intensive formula and since I have oily skin, matte seems to be alright. I definitely don't want to over-dry my skin (yuck!)

I got the Bisque color corrector (Concealer) and Daydream blush color. They are fairly similar in color, both rosey and matte formula. I use the Bisque to color correct my undereye circles. Since it is matte, it doesn't really brighten the area as much which is what I want and doesn't really help my dark circles. I've decided to just use it as a contour blush instead.

If you haven't jumped on the mineral makeup bandwagon yet, I suggest you try this company out and at least get a sample kit. You only have to pay for shipping (~$4, depending on where you live). It's a great deal and I'm so glad that I did. Many more purchases of their products to come in the future!

Read here for other Mineral Makeup favorites.
