Simple Skincare: Kind To Skin Moisturising Facial Wash

simple UK skincare
Looking for a simple kind of skincare? I recently tested the Simple Skincare Kind to Skin Moisturising Facial Wash. Simple Skincare is a UK based brand whose products are aimed to simplify your facial skincare needs. They even have an expert panel where you can chat with them live on their site here.

It's still brutally cold out here, so I was looking forward to test a product with moisturizing, beneficial ingredients for sensitive skin. This cleanser contains vital vitamins such as Pro-vitamin B5, Vitamin E, and Bisabolol to help improve the overall complexion by smoothing, soothing and calming your skin.

For the past year, my skin has been almost breakout-free. I have gone through many ups and downs with my skin, trying different regimens to get clear skin. I have been consistently taking good care of my skin by washing every morning & night and moisturizing almost daily. :) I get a few breakouts here and there but nothing crazy which is good! But I'm always looking for a product that combats my oiliness, moisturizes and brightens!

My thoughts on Simple? This is a keeper! I found the facial wash to work quite well on my combination skin. This clear gel doesn't dry out my skin which is what I look for, especially in the winter. I also like that it leaves my skin feeling clean, fresh with a nice scent too. It's a 100% soap free and very gentle. If you're looking for a no-fuss facial wash that is plain simple, check this out!

Where to find this? They have a range of products available in Duane Reade drugstores in NYC as well as their website at http://www.simple.co.uk

(Disclaimer: I received this product from this company's PR agency to test, try and share my thoughts with my readers.)(

9 Skin Care Products You Don't Need

Some beauty products are just a waste of money. Which ones, you ask?

9 Skin Care Products You Don't Need

This is a TotalBeauty.com skin care article

We gave dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer a ring to help us figure out which skin care products (general product types, not necessarily specific products) for our face or body are totally unnecessary. With so many gimmicky things out there, we should at least be able to knock a few off our list, right?

Mass Market Holiday Beauty Promotions

Hang on! The beauty promotions for the holidays are starting, and this year they will extend to mass market retailers. Determined to cut into department stores' holiday sales, drugstores and other mass merchants will be offering gifts with purchase and value sets. Some already are, but the full-court press will start the day after Thanksgiving (called Black Friday in the U.S.).

WWD provided a summary of the mass market foray into the holiday market. I couldn't resist adding my own comments to the news.

Beauty 360, an upscale boutique connected to select CVS Pharmacy locations, has a host of gift-with-purchase promotions planned. Shoppers who spend $25 on any Bloom cosmetics product will receive a Make Up Essentials Bag, a $29.95 value. Those who buy $30 worth of Warren Tricomi hair care products will receive a Blow Dry Lotion, a $15 value. A purchase of any Cargo cosmetics item will be rewarded with a choice of a free Boogie Nights Silver Eye Pencil or a Shimmer Pen, a $25 value. The beauty boutique will also be giving away a $25 Beauty 360 gift certificate with any purchase of $100 or more through January 31. Holiday-themed open houses are planned in every Beauty 360 store on November 26th and each Thursday in December, from 2:00 pm. to 7:00 pm.

Inside the traditional CVS beauty departments, the retailer has special offers, but they aren't nearly as exciting. CVS will offer proprietary sets, including the Essence of Beauty All Occasion Tote, complete with a matching cosmetics bag, mini-sized hand cream, and body mist for $14.99, a so-called $75 value, as well as the Essence of Beauty Luxury Slipper Set, which includes a foot scrub and lotion for $9.99, a $14 value. I think this shows that the focus of CVS has slipped away from the prestige brands, such as Vichy, that it had started to promote at select stores, to the lower end of the scale.

CVS did collaborate with brands to create promotional items that are slightly more interesting than its in-house label. A sampling of what will be offered includes the Wet 'n Wild Festive Flirt Nail Kit, which has eight nail colors and a nail file for $4.99, a $17 value; the Burt’s Bees Tin Ornament with Beeswax Lip Balms for $9.99, a $15 value; and $19.99 fragrance sampler boxes available in classics for her, celebrity for her, and celebrity for him, with a $20 coupon for a full scent inside. I'm unimpressed with the fragrances. I don't think they are a good fit with middle-class neighborhoods like mine, where residents have money to spend on non-essential holiday gifts. Duane Reade, Walgreens, Rite Aid, ShopRite, and Target all have similar promotions planned. I've got my eye on this Dripping in Diamonds brush set from Sonia Kashuk for Target.
Online retailers are getting in on the act too. One of my favorites, Beauty.com, will be offering an assortment of Laura Geller cosmetics gift sets for up to 75% off. Beauty.com is also working with beauty brands to create value sets for the holidays, including Stila's Color Wheel Eye Shadow Palette for $38. Beauty.com has already had to reorder this popular Stila set.

Right now, there is a special offer at Beauty.com. Get a free Lolita makeup bag filled with 13 beauty samples with any $100 purchase.

Beauty.com (and its sister Drugstore.com) will be offering free shipping on all non-prescription orders of $25 or more through December 20. Beauty.com also launched its first-ever printed gift guide, which will offer free shipping on any item featured within its pages. The guide will be tucked into shipping boxes.

According to the National Retail Federation by BIGresearch, up to 138 million people plan to shop Black Friday weekend (Friday through Sunday), up from the 134 million people who planned to do so last year. Non-mall retailers want a piece of that action. There will be some good deals out there. Shop early!

Getaway Kit from Sephora

sephora getaway kit
Right now Sephora is offering this Getaway Kit with online purchases of $25 or more! It comes with a TSA friendly clear zipper-pouch with 10 samples. I was interested in getting something at Sephora so this was a great bonus. Plus I was interested in trying the samples and hoped I would get everything in there.. Alas I got mostly everything. Can you see the difference between mine and theirs?

Holiday Series #6: Carol's Daughter Feeling Nice Hair Kit

carol's daughter holiday kit
For the holidays, will you be on Santa's naughty or nice list? Me? I plan to be on the "Nice" list this year. For the holidays, my hair will also play nice with
Carol’s Daughter Feeling Nice Hair Set. This kit includes a shampoo, leave-in conditioner, an all-over body sheen mist, and a nice headband. :)

carol's daughter holiday kit
The set ($40, USD) includes the following:
Tui Shampoo: Infused with lavender, nettles and marigolds, the formula softens and rejuvenates stressed hair. Calendula flower heals the scalp, while Red Clover infuses hair with valuable nutrients. The shampoo smelled incredibly therapeutic and left my hair moisturized and thick! I have oily, fine hair and sometimes when I use shampoo made for dry hair, it can leave it feeling heavy. It actually made my hair feel healthy and light.. the natural ingredients in Carol's Daughter makes a huge difference.
Tui Leave-In Conditioner: This flower-infused formula weightlessly conditions and hydrates hair and scalp, while repairing damaged, brittle locks. I use this in the morning to give my hair that extra oomph. I also use it for styling but a few sprays is all I need.
Sugar-Dipped Vanilla All Over Sheen: Treat your body to a sweet and subtle sheen with this glimmering hydrator. This is my favorite! It smells delicious and like a sweet vanilla cupcake while giving your skin just the right amount of glisten.. don't worry you will not look like a vampire in the sunlight. (Twilight, anyone? ;))
Playful Headband: Highlight your hydrated hair with this sweet holiday accessory. Perfect for the holiday outing but also great to wear just everyday. It's cute and makes you feel like a kid again!

WHERE TO BUY: Carol’s Daughter stores, carolsdaughter.com, and select Macy’s and Dillard’s nationwide

Zoe&Zac Naturals Beauty at Payless stores

Zoe&Zac Naturals is the new beauty products sold exclusively at Payless. When I went to a Payless store one day to browse, I was stunned to see BEAUTY products sold right before I headed over to check the shoes. Called Zoe&Zac Naturals, I was intrigued by the selection of the eyes, lips, nails and bath & body type of products. Here's a quick snapshot of the store. They currently have BOGO until October 11! Most products cost about $4-$10.

PS. If you didn't know much about Zoe&Zac check out their line here:

They first came to Payless with shoes that are made of organic cotton and recycled rubber! I'll probably pick up a shoe or two to support them!

BECCA Cosmetics: Gorgeous Beauty!

Hello Divas!

I am so sorry I have been MIA, but last week was super INTENSE. However God is a miracle worker, and I am thankful!

I have been testing out a new make-up line and I LOVE IT! Have you ever heard of Becca Cosmetics?  Becca Cosmetics is a Australian beauty line started by make-up artist, Rebecca  Morrice Williams.  She created the line to establish the perfect foundation for all skin tones.  Since then, the company has developed a line of beauty products that are gorgeous, multi-faceted and look fabulous on all skin tones.

I was given the opportunity to test out a few standout products from the line.  I was truly blown away by the range of colors and products.  Check them out.

Packaging.

Bombora Palette. This Palette is gorgeous and contains from left to right: Mai Tai lip gloss, Bougainvillea lip and check creme, Mazu highlighting creme, Raffia eyeliner, Sunburst eyeliner.

Brazilian Bronzing Sheen. Ooh la la!

Beach Tint in Raspberry.  The beach tint is used on cheeks and lips. I love multi-use products.

Glossy lip tint in Bellini.  This lip gloss gives crazy shine and it smells like rich caramel. LOVE IT.

What do you think of Becca Cosmetics?  Have you ever used them?  I am loving them so much right now!  I will follow up with some photos of my experience with the products!

Toodles!

My Favorite Facial towelettes

I'm a huge fan of facial towelettes especially when I'm traveling or on-the-go. It's a great way to de-slick the oil on my face especially during these very humid summer days...
Here are some of my go-to towelettes:

1) When I'm traveling, I use the Dickinson's Witch Hazel Towelettes. They're individually packaged in 100% witch hazel so it's a great toner to remove excess oil, sweat and dirt I've accumulated during the day. Some people may be allergic to witch hazel but even though I have really sensitive skin, this toner is surprisingly gentle on my skin. It contains all natural 100% witch hazel and control oil, refine pres, and lock in moisture. I liked this so much that I got the toner in a bottle! (~$5 for 20 towelettes, US)

My other picks?
2) When I'm removing face/eye makeup, I use the Garnier Nutritioniste Nutri-Pure Detoxifying Wet Cleansing Towelettes (whew! What a long name!). (See my previous post on the Garnier Nutrioniste skincare line) These are strong, yet gentle towelettes to remove my mascara, eye makeup, anything on my face. They smell really good- actually most of the products I have used smell good, so I'm not surprised. (~$5.99 for 25 towelettes, US)

yes to cucumbers facial towelettes
3) When I'm at the office, I use the Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelettes. They come in a 30-pack and they have such a great scent. They're very gentle and it's great to use when my face is feeling oily, usually by early afternoon. It's also a nice pick-me-up for the day. (~$5.99 for 30 towelettes, US)

They recently came out with a travel sized pack with 10 towelettes for $2.99. I personally don't think it's worth it b/c you can get 30 for just double the price. It's not that heavy either!

Review: Bliss Fat Girl Scrub

Another sample from the Beauty.com Summer Stock-up event, the Bliss Fat Girl Scrub is an exfoliator made especially for cellulite-prone areas (*ahem, like thighs!) If you have dimples or believe you have dimples, this ultra-scrub with help exfoliate your skin and circulate blood around these areas.

This isn't meant to completely remove cellulite but with regular use, it may help fade away the on the surface dead skin cells. Also, it doesn't hurt to massage your skin because after two applications, I felt my skin noticeably smoother! Note, if you have sensitive skin you shouldn't use this- may be too harsh on your skin. The scent is also really amazing- a bit strong but if you can handle the citrusy/pepperminty scent then this is great.

Bliss has great exfoliating products, including Body Scrub, Sugar Scrub and their Mammoth Minty Scrub Soap!! Check more Bliss products at beauty.com!

Mario Badescu- Cleansers and Moisturizers

Mario Badescu is one of the first non-drugstore skincare line that I have ever tried. The first product I used was their Buffer Lotion for my acne. I believe their little bottle lasted me years- I threw it out after 4-5 years?! I also tried their masks, honey moisturizer and a few more. Check out my previous Mario Badescu reviews from last year.

Recently saw them again at The Makeup Show in NYC and fell in love with their new products. All the ones I have tried earlier are, in my mind, Classic Mario Badescu products. A few new products I was able to test that I haven't used were the Citrus Body Cleanser and the AHA & Ceramide Cleanser.

Review of Classic products (have used this for the past 5 years):

Seaweed Cleansing Lotion- This is my go-to toner and even cleanser when I don't have a lot of time for my combination and extra sensitive skin. It leaves my skin feeling clean and refreshed without stinging! It contains seaweed and aloe extracts for your sensitive skin as well as mild witch hazel to clean your pores. This is great for the summer when you feel extra greasy. :) (8 oz., $15 USD) (Read more reviews.)

Review of New Mario Badescu products:

Citrus Body Cleanser- As you may already know, anything Citrus already has a thumbs up from me so I'm naturally biased. It has a great pleasant smell and it is not as gel-like as I thought it would be. It's more like liquid soap, but I am amazed this body cleanser foamed very well. I used my loofah with this to exfoliate and it worked nicely. (8 oz., $10 USD) (Read more reviews.)

AHA & Ceramide Moisturizer- This moisturizer is meant to be worn during the summer. Why? although it doesn't contain SPF (which I strongly recommend) this is an oil-free, gentle moisturized that is meant to reduce sun damage and wrinkles. It contains Alpha Hydroxy to rejuvenate your skin! (2 oz., $20 USD) (Read more reviews.)

Recently made a drugstore trip and found the 100% Pure Cosmetics line available! They didn't have their Fruit Pigmented cosmetics.. which is something I really want!

These two shelves carried the body scrubs in assorted flavors ($22 US) and gift sets (price varies).

The bottom two shelves carried the Nourishing Body Cream ($17 US) and Shower Gel ($15).

Introducing Bath & Body Works's New Aromatherapy Fragrance- Sandalwood Fig

bath and body works sandalwood fig
I received an exclusive sneak peek into Bath & Body Work's new aromatherapy fragrance- Sandalwood Fig.

The scent contains Sandalwood essential oil and notes of Fig which is the perfect combination of ROMANCE. It's free-spirited, sensual, and fun!

Bath & Body Works' Aromatherapy line contains many of my other favorites, including Orange Ginger & Mandarin Lime for Energy, so I am very excited for the launch of Sandalwood Fig in February 2010 (Just in time for Valentine's Day!)

The entire collection includes body lotion, mist, massage oil, sugar scrub, candles and more! I received the Body Mist to try and it smells really good. I have been wearing this non-stop everyday since I got it. I also use body mists as air-sprays sometimes just to make my room smell prettier.

Not too wood-sy at all!- I personally do not like anything that is too wood-sy, b/c it has a rather distinct heavy smell. However, I am very pleased that this does not remind me of that at all. I am convinced the fig tones makes it lighter and much more wearable for people like me! :)

Valentine's Day- This would be the perfect scent to wear on your Valentine's date because it will make you smell irresistible, which is exactly what you want! And guys- These also make great gifts for your girlfriend!

Affordable- The price points for these products range from $10-$20, with most being around $15 for each product. They're nice to wallet and you get a great pick-me-upper. A nice scent definitely lifts my mood, especially in this long, dreary winter we are having...

Have Your Valentine's Day Massage with Tammy Fender's Bulgarian Lavender Body Oil

tammy fender body oil
It's a new year for an all-natural you!

One of my favorite ways of moisturizing (especially in this harsh winter right now) is to use body oils. I recently discovered and tried the Tammy Fender Bulgarian Lavender Body Oil- and this product not only moisturizes but also awakens your spirit, as well!

What do I mean? Lavender oil is an essential oil that is commonly used in perfumes and aromatherapy. It contains many benefits that are therapeutic to calm and ease your mind. It truly has a scent that makes you feel calm and peaceful, which is great after a long day of work!

Tammy Fender's formulation in this body oil is meant to nourish and protect your skin. I use this after every shower to keep my skin moisturized; and this absorbs quickly so it doesn't feel oily and leave an icky residue.

Uses- I recommend using this as often as you can for fresh, radiant skin. One full pump will give you a quarter-sized dallop of oil; but the packaging you offers you to get tiny drops if you want. (Just press lightly!)

This body oil is also recommended for massages- Spend Valentine's Day this year stress-free with this calming, luxurious body oil. www.tammyfender.com (8 oz. for $65)

Here are some other great products in the Tammy Fender's line that I'm interested in..

Travel size products for on-the-go! I -aAlways like travel sizes just because :)

My Yes to Carrots' How Could I Forget Kit

yes to carrots virgin airlines kit
For the holidays, I knew someone was flying Virgin Airlines, so I asked her to get me the Yes to Carrots "How Could I Forget" kit. Here it is! Since I first found out about it in November, see earlier post, I was excited to check this out. I have not tried their shampoo, conditioner and shower gel yet, which is why I thought this kit was perfect!

My review based on my hairtype- normal, can be oily.
Shampoo- To see how well the shampoo did on really oily hair, I waited till it was pretty slick. Unfortunately the shampoo was not able to really clean it as well as I would expect. I tried this again when I had not-as-oily hair and it was good. It left my hair soft, manageable and pretty clean. So I don't recommend this if your hair is super-oily.

Conditioner- This conditioner made my hair super sleek and smooth. It did not over-moisturize but made it feel really nice. It reminded me a lot of the Hair & Scalp Mud Mask- similar texture and results!

Shower gel- Great, moisturizing body wash. I use this with my shower poof thing to help exfoliate. Again, it doesn't lather as much but it still does a good job.

yes to carrots virgin airlines kit
Packaging- Overall, I know that I can re-use these bottles and refill them with more Yes to Carrots products for travel. Definitely like the travel case.. so cute!
