The Power of Red Lipstick: Maybelline Red Revival

Hello Divas!

Remember, as long as you are living, you can change your situation.

As you Divas know, red lipstick is back with a vengeance!  It is well-known that red is a power color and the effect of red lipstick has been tested on men and they love it!!

I have had a tube of Maybelline's Red Revival in my make-up bag for over a year.  I am such a lip gloss junkie and never thought to pull it out.  But after a friend of mine started wear a fierce NARS red, I thought it may be time to put on that red lipstick!

I put on Red Revival and thought it was slightly to bright for my skin tone.  However, Red Revival is known to work with all skin tones and that is why it is the #1 selling red lipstick!  So because it was slightly too bright, I put on a layer of Lancôme's Phia Black lip gloss over the Red Revival.  The results?

The perfect true red lip for me!

Maybelline's Red Revival lipstick retails for $7.49 and can be purchased at CVS. Unfortunately, Lancôme's Phia Black was a limited edition and no longer available.  However, any sheer black lip gloss will do!

New Drugstore Products in January

The past two weeks, I have been scouting nearby drugstores to see what new products they have. I discreetly took some pictures of their displays to share with you all. I am a drugstore junkie because I love to browse and look at what new goodies they have! Even if I don't get them all the time, it's nice to look. Also got a nice haul from the CVS semi-annual beauty sale, where a lot of products were 75% off! I was late in the game but I still scored goodies from one of my favorite brands, Sally Hansen Natural Beauty by Carmindy line. I got 3 eyeshadow trio palettes and 1 cream blush !!

Pics-heavy post .. check them all out, including Maybelline, Revlon, NYC Cosmetics and NYX!! :)

Maybelline The Falsies Volum'Express Mascara

I jumped at the chance to try a new Maybelline mascara when The Falsies Volum'Express ($7.77) was introduced during the summer. I love - totally love - Maybelline's Define-A-Lash mascara, and I expected great things from The Falsies. After many weeks of on-and-off testing, I've concluded The Falsies is a nice enough volumizing mascara, but not a great one. I'm sticking with Define-A-Lash. At roughly the same price, why would anyone buy the newest one when they can have a great Maybelline mascara?

I toyed with not mentioning The Falsies. I don't enjoy writing features about products I can't recommend. Then I realized that I could save you the trouble of buying it to try it. I wouldn't use a tester of a mascara for any reason, but I know many women do at department stores. You can't test at a drug store. Most of the chain drug stores (e.g., CVS) will accept returns of used beauty products, but why bother when you know another mascara is better? Besides that, in my area, customer service at CVS has evaporated this year - must be tough times for them.

I have to start my description with the curved brush, which is intended to mimic the curve of your lashes and sweep them from root to tip. It doesn't. That's a tall order anyhow since all of us have eyelids that are different in size and contour. The brush is big, klunky, and hard to use. I find myself using the tip more often than not. Forget using the brush on your lower lashes. I have to apply mascara to mine - they are so blond they are missing in action if I don't. I can't use the brush on my lower lashes unless I use only the tip. There's too much clean-up to do.

Maybelline says you'll love The Falsies mascara because...
  • It has the patented spoon brush. In my opinion, the brush is the greatest drawback to the mascara.
  • The Kera-fiber formula instantly builds eight times more volume without clumping. This is true to some extent. I'm not sure about eight times; that would be excessive. I can tell you that it adds very nice volume that lasts all day and doesn't flake off. Maybelline also says it fills in the gaps between your lashes; that's just plain scary. It is volumizing - nicely so - but it doesn't create a shelf over your eyes.
  • The unique flexible wand helps to lift and separate lashes to provide the look of 300% more lashes. There's that wand again. If that's its greatest feature, forget it!
  • It's ophthalmologist tested and safe for contact lens wearers. What mascara isn't ophthalmologist tested these days? As for contact lens wearers, I can tell you that it didn't bother mine at all.
The Falsies Volum'Express is available in black, very black, and brown. I bought very black and black. I haven't even opened the black one.

I can't figure out why mass market beauty retailers who already have fabulous mascaras keep rolling out new ones. CoverGirl does the same thing. They have a winning mascara, but tweak it and introduce a new one. Are we so fickle that we need to try a new mascara every month? I try new ones so that I can tell you about great ones. I do have a great one to tell you about (high-end, of course). The Falsies isn't it. Try Define-A-Lash. It's available in volume and lengthening formulas.

You can purchase this mascara, if you can't stand the suspense, at mass market retailers everywhere.

Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara

one mascara that had me (and many other beauty fanatics) in a frenzy over the summer was Maybelline's new Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara.

have you tried it yet?

if your answer is no, um...why not??!

this mascara has a keratin fiber formula that gives lashes more oomph and the cool "spoon" wand makes getting every lash coated super easy.

clearly the name itself is enough to draw in a mascara junkie like myself, but it's the results that have kept me on the Falsies bandwagon. in my opinion, this is almost the drugstore equivalent of Lancome's Hypnose Drama-- my absolute favorite high-end mascara-- and if the pics don't convince you to try it for yourself, i don't know what will...

you can find Volum' Express The Falsies Mascara at my favorite mass retailer, Target (where i purchased it). visit maybelline.com for more info.

NY Fashion Week: Backstage Beauty at BCBG Max Azria Spring 2011

Charlotte Willer created a gorgeous, muted and polished look for the spring 2011 BCBG Max Azria show-- i can't help but love it!

"the look was barely there, confident and natural, characterized by soft neutral tones, and no mascara." ~Charlotte Willer

to create the look, Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation was applied all over the face in the same manner as a moisturizer, giving skin a natural luminosity. on the eyes, the creamy golden shade from the Eye Studio Quad in Green with Envy was used to create a chic and subtle effect.

since there was no mascara for this look (a huge trend on the runways this season-- gasp!), brows were the focal point. to give them the right amount of soft, easy definition, Define-a-Brow Eyebrow Pencil was used.

Color Sensational LipStain in Buff was applied on lips. a little balm was applied on top to add a hint of shine.

beauty on a budget: Maybelline SuperStay 24HR Makeup

long-wearing foundation is a great option for me because i have oily skin. some formulas just slide off of my face no matter how well i prep before applying them. Maybelline's new SuperStay 24HR Makeup promises 24 hour wear and no rub off. so how does it compare to my HG makes-me-look-flawless-no-matter-what-and-doesn't-go-anywhere-until-i-take-it-off foundation, Double Wear by Estee Lauder?

here's the scoop:

i was a bit sceptical, and not really looking forward to using this foundation, but i had to get over myself and just do it (and i did spend my own money on it!). to really put it to the test, i decided to take it through one of my 1 1/2 hour workouts (hey, it says right on the bottle that it lasts through heat, sweat and humidity, i had to do it!).

so, i ran for 30 minutes then took a 1 hour spin class. by the end of both, i was impressed with what i saw. there was foundation on my towel, but my "face" didn't look like it was melting off. of course, the makeup wasn't perfect if you looked at it really close, but i thought it held up well considering what i had just put it through.

following my extreme experiment, i decided to be fair and wear it for a week under normal conditions-- just everyday life. the formula has a buildable coverage, and is a bit thicker in consistency compared to DW. i noticed it didn't always look great by the end of the day, but overall, it kept decent coverage, held up well and removed easily at the end of the day.

one thing i really am not happy about is the lack of shades available (only 12). my shade, Caramel, is the lighter of the only two dark shades. i realize this is a typical issue with drugstore foundations, but this could always change.

have you tried Maybelline SuperStay 24HR Makeup? what do you think?

Hot Drugstore Find of the Week: Maybelline ColorSensation Barely There Nude Lipstick!

Hello Divas!

It is a gorgeous day in Atlanta!  I love it!  I hope you guys are having the best day ever!

You guys know how much I have raved about Maybelline's ColorSenational line of lip glosses and lipsticks! I love them!  Recently, I have been rocking the perfect nude lipstick, Nearly There, and it is just wonderful.  My skin tone is medium dark and sometimes it is hard for me to find the right nude to match my skin tone.  Some are too beige and some are just too dark.  Well Maybelline got it right with this nude.  It is a beige pink nude and it works!  The pink is slightly darker and mixes well with the beige.  It provides the right coverage for women with dark skin tones.  I have been wearing it with my trusty MAC Chesnut lip pencil and I get tons of compliments! And of course, the $5.99 price tag does not hurt either.

Here is a pic!  Trying to work with my I-Phone until I get a new camera. LOL!  Maybelline ColorSensational lipsticks are under $6 and you can purchase them online here at CVS.

Hot Drugstore Find of the Week: Maybelline's ColorSensational Lipgloss in Born With It

Hello Divas!

I hope you are having a beautiful week!  It snowed ...again in Atlanta.  I don't know how I feel about that, but the luxe kids love it!

If you read my Monday post, you will remember I was able to pick up a lip gloss and lipstick from Maybelline's ColorSensational Line for only $5 each.  Well I AM IN LOVE with the ColorSensational lip gloss.  I chose a pretty pink color called Born With It and it is simply gorgeous on my lips.  Check it out!

This lip gloss is shiny but not sticky.  It has a very creamy texture to it.  It also has a wonderful bubble gum scent!  More importantly, this pink color is great for brown skin.  However, this color is so versatile, it will look Amazing on any skin tone. Fabulous!

Maybelline's ColorSensational Lip glosses come in a beautiful range of colors and they are super affordable. Gotta love it!   You can purchase them at CVS or Wal-Mart.

My Wal-Mart Haul: Revlon and Maybelline!

Hello Divas!

I hope all is well!  I hope life is treating you fabulously!

This weekend I had to venture out to Wal-Mart to get some items that I could only find at Wal-Mart.  Now if you know me, I can not stand Wal-Mart. Really I can't, but the one thing I love about Wal-Mart is the beauty aisle.  They have all of my favorite drugstore beauty brands at Amazing Prices!  For instance, I saw a Maybelline ad of Jessica White and she was wearing this fabulous pinkish nude lipstick called Nearly There from Maybelline's ColorSensational line. It is so gorgeous!  So while in Wal-Mart I found the lipstick and do you know it was only $5! Yep $5! In CVS and Walgreens they are selling the same lipstick for $6.99.  That is a $2 savings!  So I also picked up a ColorSensational lipgloss in Born With It.  Love it!

Maybelline Nearly There Lipstick.
Maybelline's Born With It Lipgloss.

I ventured to the Revlon section to check out the cost of Revlon's PhotoReady Foundation.  It was only $11.49.  CVS was selling it on sale with a CVS card for $12.  More savings.  I purchased the Cappucino color and it is a perfect match.  This foundation is all the rage and I just had to try it!  I will let you guys know how it turns out!

Do you shop at Wal-Mart for beauty products?  Let me know!

Maybelline Eyestudio Eyeshadow Quads

Quick beauty finds from Vegas- Maybelline Eyestudio Eyeshadow Quads-

I saw this at the CVS on the Vegas strip and couldn't help but take a few pics to share. I didn't buy any but I will be on the lookout to see if they are selling these back home.

From what I hear, they have already been selling similar quads in Asia, and they are now just turning up in the States. What do you think?

They look iridescent and so sparkly! Gorgeous- yay or nay? They cost $9.99- which is probably why I did not purchase any..

They also have Lasting Drama by Eyestudio which are gel liners ($6.99) and Color Pearls ($9.99), which are two shades, shimmery eyeshades.

Q&A Thursdays! Pretty Peach and Bright Red Lipstick

Hello Divas!

I hope your world is just fabulous!

Today is Q&A Thursdays! One of my fav Luxetips! readers, Chamele, had a very good question regarding the best peach or bright red lipstick for skin with warm undertones. Here it is:

Question: Please help me find a pretty peach and bright red for my skin tone that won't make me look too 80's or clownish. Most pretty reds and bright peaches appear to be made for people with cool undertones, and I have warm undertones, thus I generally stick to darker colors.

Answer: Chamele during Fashion Week I discovered a bright red lipstick that looks fantastic on skin with warm undertones. Maybelline's Color Sensational Lip Color in Red Revival looks phenomenal on darker skin tones. I love it! It is the perfect red. Not too bright and not too dark. To create the perfect red color, I line my lips with my MAC lip pencil in Chesnut and then apply Red Revival over it. I then blend my lips together and the red is just smoking hot! I love it! Maybelline's Color Sensational Lip Color comes in 48 wonderful shades and they retail for $7.50. You can purchase it at CVS!

As far as a pretty preach lip color, I am current IN LOVE with Lancome's Color Fever Gloss in Hotness. It is actually a bronzy peach but it is my current go to lip gloss. The color is crazy insane! It looks fantastic on darker skin tones. I actually use it alone without lip liner. This gloss is super moisturizing and has tons of shine! Chamele you will absolutely love this color! It retails for $25 and you can purchase it from any department store.

Maybelline Stylish Smokes Collection

I was on my way to Rite-Aid to pick up a few things and I saw on the beauty displays a new eyeshadow quad collection by Maybelline. I tried to find more information on their website but I was not surprised they did not have it on their website. (I tried to find more info on their previous collection, Viva La Violet, earlier this year but didn't have much luck either. Check out the Violet collection here.)

This new Summer collection is called Stylish Smokes and includes 4 different color sets- Natural, Smoky black, Purples, and Greens. Each set contains 4 complimentary colors to achieve a smoky eye look with easy directions for your lids, crease, brow bone and outer corner. Maybelline makes it easy for beginners to apply which colors to which part of your eye with a diagram tutorial in the back of the packaging.

You don't necessarily have to use all 4 colors at once. Instructions include ways to have a Subtle Look (using only the lid color), a Casual look (using the lid and crease color), a Classic Smoky look (using the lid, crease and brow bone) and the Dramatic Smoky look (using all four colors).

I bought two of the four from the Stylish Smokes collection- Natural Smokes and Charcoal Smokes.

The Natural Smokes collection has more brown-ish tones. The Brow Bone (highlighter) color is more champagne/beige; the Lid is a shimmery dark taupe; the Crease is a shimmery dark brown, and the Outer Corner is a matte brown/black color.

The Stylish Smokes collection (similar to many other smokey eye palettes) has the silvery/grey/black tones to achieve a perfect smoky eye. The Brow Bone color is a shimmery silver color; The Lid is a darker Silver, the Crease is also a shimmery darker Silver with hints of purple, and the Outer Corner is a black tone with hints of sparkle.

The other two palettes I did not pick up were the Emerald Smokes (greens) and Amethyst Smokes (purples).

Maybelline's Lash Stiletto: My Review

Hello Divas!

Wishing you an awesome Monday! I am sure you Divas know by now that I love Mascara. It is my everyday go to product. It just adds a bit of pop to your face! Recently, I was given the opportunity to try Maybelline's Lash Stiletto. Maybelline claims this Mascara will give you super long lashes with a shiny patent finish. Of course, I was too excited to try it. Who doesn't want super long eyelashes? Did it live up to the hype? Yes! I do promise that after using this Mascara, your lashes will be super long. I mean my upper lashes were almost touching my eyebrows. I was super impressed! After wearing it all day, it did not smudge. Which is a huge plus! The only thing I do not like about the Mascara is that it does not thicken or separate your lashes. But it does not claim to do that! Lash Stiletto retails for $7.49 and it is definitely worth the price! This is a great buy ladies! You can purchase Lash Stiletto at CVS or online here.

And Divas, if you would like to try Maybelline's Lash Stiletto, I am giving away a tube. I have already given away a tube on my Luxetips Facebook Group page earlier today! Join the Luxetips Group on Facebook here for more cool giveaways. So the first person who leaves a comment telling me what is my favorite drugstore brand Mascara wins!

Maybelline Viva La Violet Spring 2009 Look

Some new products include an Eye Express shadow/liner pencils in a baby pink, dark purple, steely gray shades and a dark purple eyeliner pencil, forgot the name. Gorgeous colors! Tell me, will you be wearing purple this Spring?

Hot Drugstore Find of the Week! Maybelline's Full N' Soft

Hello Divas!

I hope this week is a good one! My Hot Drugstore Find of the Week is Maybelline's Full N' Soft Mascara. While visiting several beauty forums, I kept reading rave reviews about Maybelline's Full N' Soft. Fellow beauty junkies claim it is a great thickening Mascara that also lenghtens your lashes and keeps them nice and soft. So, considering my absolute obsession with Mascara, you know I had to try it! Well ladies it definitely lives up to the hype! The brush is medium to big (not big as DiorShow which I will review later), and I love that when you pull the brush out of the tube, any excess Mascara is instantly wiped off the brush. So no clumps! I apply 2 coats and my lashes are thick, full, and long. I really really like this Mascara! And true to its name, your lashes feel soft and feathery, not hard. Plus you can't beat the price. This Mascara retails for $7. You can purchase it online here, or at your fav drugstore.
